A thought occurred to me last week after a meeting with one of our clients — why don’t more organizations use employee assessments ? Here at ExactHire, we use and promote the use of assessment tools for many employee issues. Among those uses are hiring, team building, succession planning and 360 degree feedback for performance reviews. Then it hit me…most people (and therefore organizations) see these tools as “tests”, not assessments.
When you are interviewing someone for a job, either for a “permanent” position or temporary one, do you monitor how – and how many times – the candidate uses the words “I” “we” and “they?” Do you have a metric for it? Place much significance in it? Pay attention or care at all? Professor James W.

Business software need not be ugly or clumsy. In fact, software for a job like recruiting is going to be used by people who only spend a few hours a month hiring people. For them, the process of reviewing applicants or taking in interview notes is a side job. Something they cannot afford to be trained for separately or do day-after-day, often enough to become experts with a complex tool.
Savvy B2B marketers know that a great account-based marketing (ABM) strategy leads to higher ROI and sustainable growth. In this guide, we’ll cover: What makes for a successful ABM strategy? What are the key elements and capabilities of ABM that can make a real difference? How is AI changing workflows and driving functionality? This Martech Intelligence Report on Enterprise Account-Based Marketing examines the state of ABM in 2024 and what to consider when implementing ABM software.
'A business is a well-oiled machine, relying on the seamless execution of a number of processes to drive it forward. Disruptions and delays (bottlenecks) will occur unless you keep these processes in ship shape. In the hiring process, bottlenecks are more than just an inconvenience. They can damage company culture and tarnish your brand - making it more difficult to attract and hire top talent.
Over the span of each of your careers, I’m sure you can pinpoint at least one time in which you had a very unfortunate, if not comical, recruitment experience with an organization. That is, the company made some major blunder while recruiting you…for example, during an interview or a follow-up communication. If so, I invite you to comment and share your experiences, though please keep the organization anonymous to protect the innocent.

You may recall from “Part 1” of this story the emphasis I placed on creating and nurturing a recruitment brand for your organization. Because whether or not you address it, you have a brand…so make sure it is a recruitment brand you are proud to support! In this post, we’ll take a quick look at how you may use applicant tracking software to help maintain the recruitment brand you worked so diligently to create.
This video of Forrester CEO George Colony at LeWeb in Paris lasts only 22 minutes, but it’s got gems on strategy that I’ll bet I’ll look back on in five years and wish I took more to heart. He explains for example how the web differs from the internet (note to earth: the web is not the internet, it’s software we’ve built onto the internet) and how the web may not be the best horse to bet on given that network speed is increasing much less quickly than processor and storage capability.
When golf season ended here in Minnesota back around November 1, I signed up with Adam Paulson, the well-regarded fitness coach at the nearby Snap Fitness center, who quickly had me replace my near daily 1600-calorie-kill golf rounds with his regiment of core workouts and nutrition reboot. I’ve since lost two inches of belly fat and moved from the bottom 25% to the top 50% in flexibility and am determined to bring that same renewal to my businesses in 2012.
The holidays anguish staffing company owners like no other time of the year. Deck the Halls can turn your stomach when you realize your GP is about to drop by 30% for two weeks straight followed by the worst staffing month of the year, January. Let it be a mortal blow for your competitor, not you. So get a jump on 2012. Ready? Cut Costs. Yeah some genius marketer is going to tell you that now is the time to spend more not less on sales and PR, but you know the reason you’ve succeeded where other

No doubt you’ve experienced the web’s evolution toward a more social and mobile space. We share and consume content in more ways and across a greater variety of devices than ever before. You may have heard less about localization – another way the web is evolving. This trend is about making the web more targeted and meaningful to local audiences, primarily in terms of language and culture.
Finding a new job may be at the top of your employees’ New Years’ Resolutions list. A recent Right Management Survey highlights that most employees want to leave their current position. Even more alarming: the percentage was just as high last year. Here’s the key question from the study: ???. That people are dissatisfied at their jobs isn’t surprising given the general distrust workers have of employers after record layoffs during the recession.
Last week I wrote about the possibly discriminatory but certainly stupid new trend where job boards and employers are requiring that applicants have a job before they can apply. Now I’d like to take my hand at busting another myth, that of the wonderfulness of the passive candidate. We all know about conventional wisdom. These generally accepted ideas are often left unexamined.
Okay, I got the memo. We are in the midst of a busy holiday season. Our time is precious. We can count the days – and the hours – until the Christmas/Hanukkah break. And if I wasn’t on your radar/agenda/to-do list for a while, it’s hard to add me now. But we’ve been friends and/or professional acquaintances for how long?

A month or so ago I did this post on how to create your own Facebook job board. I’m back now with an update on the project and this time have created an open source repository for it over on Codeplex. That means you can go over there, download it, install it, and use it free of charge subject to the terms of the liberal Microsoft Public License. This app flattens the Facebook object graph so that you can search your friends and your friends friends and so on for contact information that may be h
With more than 550 offices in three countries, the CEO of the world’s 11th largest privately-held staffing company says it’s one thing to take revenue from the communities in which they do business, but giving back is equally important. “It’s not how much you take; it’s how much you give that really counts,” Bob Funk, CEO of Express Employment Professionals said in an interview with Staffing Talk.
So my esteemed Staffing Talk colleague and TempWorks software guru Gregg Dourgarian has some awesome and authentic ways to beat the holiday staffing blues. At the risk of adding to that drop in productivity and GP he references, let me offer another way to beat the holiday blues. Here are more always-popular images of some people who definitely have it a lot worse than you do on the job.
My weekly coffee chat and peer-to-peer networking group meeting didn’t start out as a bitch session against recruiters. But it did turn into one. And yes, in the process, someone told of a corporate hiring manager who did utter those words that make up our headline. During an actual job interview. More on that in a minute. So I am in this group of fairly disparate people in terms of life stage and vocation.

I just talked to a staffing company owner who told me he has clients who want him to expand and open offices in other cities, and that he could double the size of his company overnight if he could find the right people to fill all his job reqs. Then minutes later I sit down at the computer and see that 5.7 million Americans are due to have their unemployment benefits expire January 1 st , and that some of them, along with member of Congress, are panicking.
Now that he has been convicted, is the legal saga over for a tangled web of staffing businesses run by Greensboro, North Carolina’s Bruce Harrison? Or will another shoe drop in the form of additional charges against his cohorts? That’s what many of you are apparently wondering after our December 22nd Staffing News of the Day story on this case generated lots of readers – and some strongly worded comments.

Whenever I talk to staffing company owners, and ask them about their primary barriers to growth, the answers often are the same. Among them, human capital, or the lack of good, qualified workers, worker’s comp and of course continuing changes in (and rising costs of) employee health insurance. As we straddle this last week of 2011, and the new year, let’s look at some small, but steady changes in employee health insurance, and how and where ObamaCare figures in.

I can almost hear the champagne bottles being opened at Jobs2Web , the career-site-cum-seo startup on the other side of Minneapolis from us. Like a Jared Allen blitz, they just plowed through a host of suitors before finally selling themselves for a cool $110 million to SuccessFactors, itself a recent and fortunate $3 billion acquisition by SAP.
