Customizing.Net Applications

Staffing Talk

This post is about customizing Microsoft.Net applications for clients. But first, I want to give some background on how my two software companies have thrived by providing customization through source code changes. Both companies (Probe, an airline software company started in 1982 and TempWorks in 1994) offer their software products largely on an open-source basis.

Never Leave Work Between 4pm and 6pm

Staffing Talk

Even though I live less than two miles from my office, I rarely leave the office during rush hour. The world would be a better place if we all followed the advice of OmniNerd (can you believe their is such a site?). They have proven that your nuts if you leave work beween 4pm and 6pm. Why VMS Sucks

Staffing Talk

Most VMS systems fail. They fail to provide the client with quality candidates. They fail to produce the promised economies. And they most certainly fail to get buy-in from the staffing providers. Three Reasons Why We Don't Get The Sale

Staffing Talk

I tried for months to get my first software contract in 1982. I tried everything from running ads to cold-calling. I failed so badly it was depressing. A few things finally coincided that made it happen. The first was that my boss at the time really pissed me off, to the point that my motivation level to make the break reached a peak. The second was that, as luck would have it [note: the more you work the luckier you get], a woman that I worked with in Spain happened to take a job with a French
