Taking Back All the Nice Things I Said About FaceBook

Staffing Talk

Beware of Facebook or any social networking site. The information they get from you belongs to them and not to you, and they can use it any way they want. Yahoo gave the Chinese-worse-than-communist government all the information they had on dissidents - names, messages, addresses, phone numbers, associations - supposedly because Chinese law said they had to.

Manpower, Kelly Tank Again in U.S. market.

Staffing Talk

[link] The global staffing companies continue to get their clocks cleaned here in the U.S. by competitors with the entrepreneurial zeal necessary to recruit the best. These competitors are also busy providing their clients with RPO (Recruitment Process Outsourcing), VMS (Vendor Management System), Paperless document management, and other online solutions.

Another Reason to Use Recruitment Software That Respects Privacy

Staffing Talk

Monster theft runs rampant. But it's not just theft by hackers that should scare you. When you post a job on Monster, you draw attention to anyone who may want to profit from it. That could be a hacker, or that could be a recruiter down the street waiting to poach the candidates your ad attracts. Staffing software should respect privacy. If you pay to generate interest from candidates, you should be the one to benefit from that.

Word of the Day: assiduity

Staffing Talk

Assiduity: the ability to sit down on your ass and do what you have to do. As in, "She's an assiduous programmer. She just sits on her ass and cranks out code until she's done." Francophiles out there will note easily the root similarity to 'assis' (seated) from which in fact it derives. I'm told though that the seemingly obvious relationship between 'ass' and 'assiduity' is quite fortuitous.

The Rules Do Apply: Navigating HR Compliance

Speaker: Ann Meyers Piccirillo

HR Compliance is like a giant game of whack-a-mole. Once you think your company is compliant with all policies and procedures documented and in place, there’s a new or amended law, regulation, or final rule that pops up landing you back at ‘start.’ There are shifts, interpretations, and balancing acts to understanding compliance changes. Keeping up is not easy and it’s very time consuming.

Old White Fart Faces Up to Facebook

Staffing Talk

My 20-year-old daughter reprimanded me for my ignorant Facebook post. This is the same daughter who got me started on text-messaging a few years back which eventually led to a lot of the mobile web and text message development at Tempworks. Facebook has replaced email for many young people, especially those under age 18. It has overtaken MySpace, Twitter, Pounce, YouTube, LinkedIn and so on.

How to Create a Successful Virtual Staffing Company

Staffing Talk

Pity the global staffing companies. Flush with cash from protected global markets like France they have millions to piss away on goofy ideas from their PR firms. The latest: Second Life , a virtual reality site that despite its puny size in comparison with say World of Warcraft gets a lot of attention from big business that wants to seem cool. If you go there you’ll find indeed it’s cool. especially if you want to meet someone who may [or may not] be from the opposite sex.
